Measuring dynamic contact angles on hydrophobic materials via tilting base method
The tilting based method is one of the most common techniques to observe dynamic wetting behaviour, which can provide advancing contact angle, receding contact angle and the contact angle hysteresis (CAH) in an easy and reliable procedure. In this application, the method will be presented using PTFE foils and metallic plates as samples.

Surface energy determination on thin wires using picolitre drops
The surface energies of a tinned and a pure copper wire were determined measuring contact angles with various liquids using the DataPhysics optical contact angle measuring and contour analysis system OCA 200 in combination with the picolitre dosing system PDDS.

DataPhysics: Beyond the Surface
This is the first issue of the DataPhysics company magazine Beyond the Surface. The focus topic of this issue is battery research.

DataPhysics: understanding interfaces
This brochure introduces DataPhysics Instruments, a company with strong merits in the field of surface and interfacial science.

Porometry
Porometry allows the determination of pore size distributions as well as gas and liquid permeability and bubble points of through-pore systems such as filters, membranes and papers.

Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)
Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy uses pulsed laser as an excitation energy carrier. Laser irradiance value of more than hundreds of GW per square cm evaporates and ionizes small amount of target material.

Interfacial rheology
With interfacial rheology the viscoelastic behavior and stress relaxation of an interface can be characterized. If there are interfacially active components (surfactants, polymers, nanoparticles...) present, they make this more complex. These compounds adsorb and form a layer at the interface. When the available interfacial area changes, the interfacially active components react to the deflexion out of the equilibrium state.

Analysis of the transmission and backscattering behaviour
Time- and space-resolved measurement of transmission and backscattering are used for dispersion stability analysis.

Optical contact angle measurement
The optical analysis of drops that hang from a dosing needle or are placed on a solid surface facilitates the determination of different surface and interfacial parameters. The contact angle that a liquid drop establishes on a solid surface characterises the solid’s wetting behaviour with said liquid.

Surface energy analysis for the verification of treatment effects on different polymer substrates
The effect of polymer treatments on four polymer substrates was tested by surface energy analysis using an optical contact angle measuring and contour analysis system of the OCA series from DataPhysics Instruments.
